Biography

Some biographical notes about the artist.

  • Yosef Gutman grew up on a farm in South Africa. Showing signs of talent from a young age, he began playing - and soon after abandoned - the piano. During his late teens, he picked up the bass guitar and moved from his hometown to New York via Boston.

  • After playing extensively with (Blue Note artist) Lionel Loueke, Yosef Gutman suspended his music career and sought his Jewish roots, but it wasn't until now that he reawakened his art of the bass once more, with the release of his debut album.
